I was a Flower of the mountain yes

--

Twitter has informed me that today marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of James Joyce’s Ulysses.

I reached for my nearest Lit anthology in hopes of reading a passage, and realized I had somehow managed to block out my disappointment at discovering that my latest Norton edition contained no excerpts from Ulysses, not even my favorite “I was a Flower of the mountain” passage.

When my fella emailed me out of nowhere, a little over five years ago now, and asked me if I’d like to go see Suicide Squad with him that night, I didn’t say, “Sure,” or “Okay,” or “See you at 8.”

I said “Yes. Yes I would.”

Yes.

Great literature changes you; the art you love makes you who you are.
