how to engineer civil unrest (using basic ad tools)

I went live on FB yesterday to explain, for the general public, what the advertising tools are that facilitate targeting specific groups for misinformation campaigns and how they work. People involved in digital humanities, some areas of political science, and of course many subfield of international relations, will already be familiar, but in conversations with friends and family and in “the comments” (always a dangerous wilderness) I’ve got the impression that social media users in general are aware that audience targeting is A Thing, but they don’t have a clear idea of how it works in practice.

My hope is that I’ve made the explanation accessible to the non-specialist.
